[FPs] "It was lucky to have the rain this morning"
says seb about missing first session...
Sebastian Vettel - 10th: "We didn't have so much running time today, especially in the morning, but that was actually quite good for us. We knew we would face a difficult Friday as we have that much mileage available because of my engine situation, so it was a little lucky to have the rain this morning. In the afternoon, I felt comfortable with the car, we didn't have any problems and I'm quite happy with the performance. We need see exactly where we are tomorrow, but think it's been a good start to the weekend. I love this circuit, it has excellent corners and is a lot of fun."

08.28: Renault has no explanation
for why only Sebastian has engine problems...
Renault does not know why Sebastian Vettel has been the victim of multiple engine problems this year. Four cars in the field are powered by the French manufacturer's V8, but it is 22-year-old Red Bull driver Vettel who was afflicted by two failures at Valencia last weekend, on top of his two problems earlier in the season. "There are no objective reasons why the problems have only been with Vettel and Red Bull," Fabrice Lom, in charge of Renault's customer engine programme, is quoted as saying by Germany's Auto Motor und Sport. "The engines run in Red Bull with the same temperatures as they do in the Renault. And Vettel's style of driving doesn't have anything to do with it," he added. Vettel has two high mileage units remaining and two fresh engines for the remaining six races of the season. Should he require more than his allocated eight units, he will take a grid position penalty of ten positions for each additional engine. Source: F1-Live

08.27: RBR may restrict Vettel’s practice time
to save engine power...
Sebastian Vettel says Red Bull Racing is considering all options so as to avoid a grid penalty that could extinguish his world championship hopes. Vettel said the team is still examining whether it can avoid incurring such a costly penalty by keeping his practice mileage to a minimum. Restricting practice laps would cost Vettel valuable set-up time, but the German suggested this might be a price worth paying if it prolongs the engine’s life. “We need to see,” he said. “Last weekend having two failures within two days was not a good thing. Surely it affects the programme for the rest of the season. The last thing we want is to take a penalty, so the question now is what can we do. We are considering now all our options and possibly this means less running for myself on a Friday, so less practice, which for sure is not an advantage. But in the end of the day do you want to take a grid penalty, yes or no? I think you know maybe it is better to have a bit of time off and take some coffee in the break rather than starting 10 places back at some race.” Source: ITV

08.25: No KERS for Red Bull
according to adviser Helmut Marko...
Red Bull Racing has ruled out using Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems at the forthcoming Belgian, Italian and subsequent Grand Prix. In the face of denials, it has nonetheless been reported that the title-challenging team is considering using KERS in its championship fight against Brawn. The team's motor racing adviser Helmut Marko has reiterated that the energy-recovering technology will not be used anywhere in 2009 or 2010. "We will not use KERS this season or in the next," he told the Salzburger Nachrichten newspaper. He repeated team boss Christian Horner's recent insistence that, so late in the season and amidst a championship contest, trying to make KERS work now "would be too risky". KERS is permitted according to the 2010 rules, but Marko referred to the "voluntary agreement" of the Formula One Teams’ Association not to use the systems next year "and we will adhere to it".
