07.10: German quintet show humour with Nazi salute
seb and the guys poke fun at news on pc...
F1's quintet of German drivers on Thursday showed the sport still has a sense of humour, even amid the scandal involving Bernie Ecclestone and his Hitler comments. At the Nurburgring, the German manufacturer BMW's F1 boss Mario Theissen slammed the F1 Chief Executive's dictatorial musings as ‘disgusting’ and said he wants to hear yet another apology. But as the international media met with local heroes Sebastian Vettel, Nico Rosberg, Adrian Sutil, Nick Heidfeld and Timo Glock in the official FIA press conference, humour made a comeback. When Rosberg was illustrating with his hand a car speeding up a hill, Vettel began to snigger before giving the press a full Nazi salute. The other drivers followed suit and the room exploded into laughter. To the Express newspaper, Ecclestone apologised for the affair once again, insisting he will not give in to pressure to stay away from the German venue this weekend. Source: F1Live

07.09: RB06 to be built around Sebastian's style
for the upcoming new season...
Next year's Red Bull will ‘inevitably’ be based on the driving style of Sebastian Vettel, team boss Christian Horner has revealed. To Germany's Abendzeitung newspaper, Horner denied that Vettel has 'number 1' status alongside team-mate Mark Webber. "The situation is that both drivers are equipped with absolutely identical material and supported equally," he insisted. "However with the way Sebastian drives, it is logical for a team to develop its car according to his style. And that will inevitably happen in the (2010) RB6," Horner added. "Fortunately Mark has a similar style, which makes the development task substantially easier for the team." With 3.5 points separating Vettel and Webber in the drivers' standings, Horner insists it is too early to favour one over the other for the 2009 title. Source: F1 Live

07.09: "Difficult, but it can be done"
says Ecclestone of a possible Seb WDC title...
Bernie Ecclestone believes Sebastian Vettel could win this year's World title but doesn't know if he'll be heading to Ferrari once the season is over. Vettel has been linked to a move to the Scuderia, although most reports suggest it will only be in 2011 when both Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa's contracts expire. Ecclestone, though, believes Red Bull's charge up the order this season, which has resulted in two race wins for Vettel, has made it a very difficult decision for Vettel. "That I cannot tell you (if Vettel's moving to Ferrari) as Red Bull are doing a very good job," the 79-year-old told the Bild. As for claims once made by Red Bull team boss Christian Horner that Ecclestone is Vettel's unofficial manager, the F1 supremo said: "If he has questions, he calls me. I give him advice whenever I can." Heading into this weekend's German GP, Vettel is third in the Drivers' standings, 25 points adrift of Championship leader Jenson Button. And Ecclestone isn't yet ready to write off the German's chances of glory. "Difficult, but it can be done," Ecclestone said of Vettel's World title aspirations. Source: PlanetF1

07.06: 'Quite Honestly, Sebastian Is A Gift To Us'
says Nürburgring manager...
In an economic recession and in the post-Michael Schumacher era, organisers of this weekend's German grand prix see Sebastian Vettel as a godsend. The young German, who last Friday celebrated his 22nd birthday, dominated the recent British grand prix and is seen by many as Jenson Button's most likely challenger for the 2009 world championship. Formula one races in Germany suffered a slump in interest following Schumacher's retirement in 2006, as fans looked to other native drivers, or marques Mercedes-Benz and BMW, to fill the void left by the most successful F1 career in history. The Nurburgring is therefore making the most of Vettel's burgeoning form, like renaming a grandstand alongside the 5km layout after the likeable Red Bull driver. "Quite honestly, Sebastian Vettel is a gift to us," circuit managing director Walter Kafitz told the German news agency SID. Other grand prix venues have recorded alarming slumps in terms of trackside attendances this season due to the economic situation, but Kafitz said tickets have been selling "on the level of 2007" on the back of Vettel's successes. [RUMOURS] Red Bull Racing to change engines?
according to grandprix.com website...
There are rumours that Red Bull Racing may want to change engines next year with the suggestion being that the team could switch to Mercedes-Benz. The success of Brawn GP has shown that the engines are highly competive and Mercedes-Benz is particularly interested in the team because it would give it access to rising German star Sebastian Vettel, who is otherwise tied into a Red Bull contract. Mercedes-Benz is keen to expand its engine supplies to avoid lay-offs in its engine division while at the same time strengthening its F1 position. Source: GrandPrix.com
