06.22: Vettel - The championship fight is on
"every week there are more ideas," he says...
Sebastian Vettel says he is not underestimating the challenge of overhauling Jenson Button's championship lead, but is confident that Red Bull has the potential to chase down Brawn after dominating at Silverstone.

"I think Jenson was very strong in all eight races we've had so far and he totally deserves to be in this position," said Vettel. "Looking at the championship, he obviously has quite a comfortable lead still but we're trying to do our best and I think the only thing that makes sense is to use every single opportunity we have."

"We're working very, very hard, the team is very determined and we know where we want to be, we want to win.

"I think that's the only way to turn it around. For sure it won't be easy but we are totally up for the fight. The season is still very long, anything can happen still."

"Every week there are more ideas," he said. "The updates that came on the car here were only designed around Monaco. I think the fact that we're very competitive this weekend is down to a lot of factors. First of all, I think we have made a step forward – the car was brilliant here and this circuit suits us. On top of that I think the conditions were right for us, we had no issues with the tyres, so everything was working and it was very close to being perfect which is very, very difficult to achieve but it should always be the target. In the end, you can't really foresee what's going to happen but I can assure you we will try very, very hard to improve, even from where we are now and try to collect more points than all our competitors."

06.21: "Victory was not as easy as it looked"
said sebastian after race...
Sebastian Vettel said his British Grand Prix victory was not as easy as it looked, despite the German crushing the opposition on Sunday.

Vettel completed a 'hat-trick' at Silverstone, starting from pole position, setting the fastest lap of the race, and taking his second win of the season.

The Red Bull driver finished 15 seconds ahead of team-mate Mark Webber and over 40 in front of third-placed Rubens Barrichello.

Despite his dominance, Vettel said the race had been difficult, especially during the first part.

"It is never easy," said Vettel. "It is a long, long race and particularly at this fantastic circuit everyone is enjoying it a lot. It is a dream, really, you have to stay focused and keep your eyes open.

"The start was important, the first stint I pushed hard straight away to try and build a gap, I knew it was crucial as I would benefit all race from it. I had a fantastic car. I was able to push more an more and more.

"The second stint wasn't easy at all, they said 'be careful'. I had a lot of traffic and a lot of battling cars, it is tricky when you get close. It was anything else but easy.

"It was great and in the last pitstop I was in clean air. I was counting down the laps and controlling the race from that point onwards. The last 10 laps were quite easy but before that I was pushing hard and in second stint was like a slalom, having to pass a lot of lapped cars."

The German, who had previously won in China this year, was thankful to the British crowd and admitted it was hard to believe he had won the race.

"It is fantastic. It shows we are on the right way. I want to thank Silverstone: it's only my second time here, I enjoyed it so much here, the cheering was fantastic, the emotions especially when I crossed the chequered flag, it was fantastic.

"The atmosphere was great. This is what I was dreaming of when I saw the first grand prix here in era of Mansell and so on. It is unreal now to think I am here, I have made it and I have won this grand prix."

Vettel also played down his team's dominance, as he reckons all the circumstances were right for him this weekend.

"I wouldn't mind if we could continue like that, but I think it is a bit of everything," he said. "This circuit is fantastic and suits our car. The first sector was great every single lap and I have seen our car is behaving fantastically well in all sorts of corners.

"On other hand we have made a nice step forward. I think we have improved the car a bit everywhere and it all came together. We did a good job the whole team working fine and if you want to say it in that way we were quite dominant today."

[QLF] "I was surprised how quick I was!"
says sebastian after qualifying...
“It’s been a fantastic weekend, we haven’t had a single problem. We brought new parts here, which seem to work very well and we’ve made a good step forward. There’s always tension in qualifying and you try to do your best. It was quite difficult today and we were struggling a little bit with traffic. It’s tricky when you have cars ahead of you – even when they’re three seconds ahead, it does still affect you. In Q3 we had two very good runs, especially the last one, I think it was the lap of the weekend.”

“Normally you think you could have got a bit more, but this lap was very good. I was able to use the tyres perfectly and when I got to the chequered flag I was surprised how quick I was – and it was enough for pole! All I can say is huge compliments to the guys back at the factory, they have been working so hard to get this car to where it is now – so it’s all down to them. Both of us have proved the car is working very well and I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s race.”

06.20: "I think we have made another step here"
says sebastian, ambitious to beat the brawns...
Sebastian Vettel is confident that the Red Bull Racing team can begin to reel in leaders Brawn GP, starting in Great Britain this weekend. The German driver, who is currently third in the championship and thirty-two points behind leader Jenson Button, is confident that - with the latter struggling in practice - amends can be made at Silverstone.

Having finished atop the timesheets in both first and second practice on Friday, Vettel slipped to fourth behind the two Williams and Jarno Trulli on Saturday morning, although Button was classified in only 12th place. "For six out of seven races they have been uncatchable, so maybe it is time for a change," Vettel said at Silverstone on Saturday morning.

"Just prior to this race, I have been at the factory and the people are really working flat-out and pushing very hard to make the car faster and faster; everyone is extremely ambitious to beat the Brawns - I think we have made another step here, it looks pretty promising, so let's see how it goes in qualifying."
