05.13: "Vettel is not for sale"
confirmed Christian Horner...

Formula One talent Sebastian Vettel is not for sale, according to Red Bull team principal Christian Horner. The 21-year-old scored his second Formula One win in China this season and is currently third in the drivers' standings; having been linked to both McLaren and Ferrari last month, however, his boss is keen to retain the German.

"Sebastian is very happy driving for this team and we are very happy to have him," Horner said in an interview with the official F1 website. "He has been a member of the Red Bull family for a long, long time and Red Bull Racing has provided him with a very good car this year. I think that Mr. (Dietrich) Mateschitz (Red Bull president) has also mentioned that Sebastian is certainly not for sale.

"I'm obviously not disclosing the details of his contract but I can't imagine anywhere else that Sebastian would rather be at the moment. For next year I don't see any intention of him going anywhere else - he is a fixture within the team."

05.11: Red Bull seeks long-term deal with Vettel
Vettel in demand from the likes of McLaren and BMW...
Red Bull is keen to secure the services of Sebastian Vettel for a long time, team boss Christian Horner has admitted.

The Austrian squad's contract with the 21-year-old German, the only driver apart from Jenson Button to have won a race this year, runs out at the end of 2010.

But Horner told Sport Bild: "We see our future with Sebastian. We want to strengthen and expand our team around him."

Openly interested in Vettel beyond 2010 is BMW Sauber and McLaren Mercedes, but Bernie Ecclestone has made clear he would like to see his driver favourite at the wheel of a Ferrari – no surprise there.

However, Horner said: "Sebastian feels comfortable with us. If we give him cars with which he can drive at the front, there will be no reason for him to move."

05.10: RBRs now quicker than the Brawns
says sebastian and newey...
Seb Vettel believes that his Red Bull had the pace to take on the Brawns at the Spanish GP if only he didn't spend his Sunday afternoon in Barcelona becoming an expert in the rear-end of Felipe Massa's Ferrari.

As predicted, Massa's KERS-carrying Ferrari jumped Vettel off the start and the result, with the youngster unable to find a way back past, was a 60-lap exercise in frustration for the Red Bull driver.

"I think we had the pace to take on the Brawns but we just couldn't show it. I tried and tried to pass the Ferrari but it just wasn't possible.

"It's a good result but very frustrating to be stuck that red car for 60 laps. Very, very frustrating knowing that we could have been so much quicker."

In fact, if the team's designer Adrian Newy is to be believed, Red Bull would have been quick enough to win the grand prix. "From what we could see, take out the Ferraris and we actually had a quicker pace than the Brawns."

05.10 "Start cost me victory shot"
said sebastian after race...
Sebastian Vettel believes he could have fought Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello for victory at the Spanish Grand Prix, had he made a better start.

The Red Bull driver finished the race fourth - 19 seconds behind winner Button, but is certain that he could have got in among the Brawns had he not been passed by Felipe Massa's Ferrari at the beginning.

"It's a disappointing race for me," Vettel, who started from the front row, told BBC TV. "Because I think the car was very, very quick today, very competitive and I'm sure we could definitely fight with the Brawns.

"Unfortunately Felipe got past me at the start and I was stuck behind him all race. I tried to pass a couple of times, but I never really got close enough to start a manoeuvre.

"It's just very frustrating to see two cars in front pulling away and you're stuck behind a red car for 63 laps. It's very frustrating, especially when you know you can go so much quicker."

While clearly being quicker through the corners than Massa, Vettel was unable to stay with the Ferrari on the straights due to the Brazilian using his KERS to keep the German at bay.

Vettel eventually passed Massa for fourth with three laps to go, the Ferrari driver being forced to back off in order to save fuel and reach the chequered flag.

His time behind the Brazilian allowed team-mate Mark Webber – who had started and run behind them all race – to leapfrog the pair at the final round of pitstops.

"It's a shame when Felipe ran out of fuel, but obviously I was happier to pass him than I had been for the previous 63 laps stuck behind him."

Vettel's points enabled him to retain his third place in the world championship, albeit losing ground on second place Barrichello.

[QLF] "Unfortunately wasn't good enough to beat Jenson"
says sebastian after qualifying...
Sebastian Vettel admitted he was frustrated to miss out on pole for the Spanish Grand Prix - but insisted second was still a good result given Red Bull's mediocre practice form.

"We have a very strong car and this weekend it seems to work pretty well, so I'm very pleased," he said. "On the first run in Q3 I felt very comfortable in the car, and on the second run the lap time was good - unfortunately not good enough to beat Jenson today. I would have wished to have the pole, but at the last minute he took it away.

"But second position, and the front row, is great, especially as I think we had a very good recovery from yesterday, when we were struggling a little bit with the balance of the car."

The German also praised the Red Bull team for working late into the night to ensure the RB5 was fitted with the very latest updates created back at the factory.

"Some of the parts arrived at the last minute so they had to trim and mould them to the car," Vettel said. "It was all a bit tight and there were long nights, not a lot of sleep, but they can have more today."

[FPs] "We have to improve and come stronger tomorrow"
says sebastian after a problemless day...
Sebastian Vettel - 7th: "A pretty normal Friday except that at some stage we had a problem with the radio and I think I had some Spanish drivers to talking to me! Other than that was normal Friday business. We did of laps and tested some new parts, which think we got an answer on, but to be for tomorrow and Sunday we will compare the data in comparison to our competitors. I'm confident there are areas where I improve and where we can improve car, so we have to work hard and come back stronger tomorrow."
