10.15 "The only thing I can do is win."
but Seb insists the pressure is not on him...
Seb said today that all the pressure is now on Brawn GP’s Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello as he prepares to chase down the pair’s points advantage this weekend. After his dominant win in Suzuka, Seb’s title hopes have been reinvigorated after cutting Button’s lead to 16 points with two races remaining. The German though admitted he only has an outside shot at the title but it is that outsider status which takes any pressure away from him while heaping it on the title leaders. “The only thing I can do is win, the pressure is the two in front of me,” Vettel said in Brazil. “You don’t have to be genius to know that I have to win the races and those two mess it up. “Both races, the last two races, Singapore and Japan, obviously Singapore should have been a bit better, it is in the past now. I hope those three points (lost in Singapore through a drive-through penalty) are not missing in the end. Japan was fantastic for us, the car was great and I am looking forward to the next two races.” The task ahead of Vettel is huge though. To keep the title fight alive he must win in Brazil with Button finishing sixth or lower. Then he must win again at the season closer in Abu Dhabi in just over a fortnight. Interlagos, despite being one of the season’s few anti-clockwise tracks, which stresses a driver’s neck in unfamiliar ways, is a track Vettel feels comfortable with. “This circuit I think should suit us,” he asserted. “It still has a lot of corners where you need the downforce and it seems it is our strength, so we are looking forward to it, but we don’t know what to expect. For this weekend the teams with KERS will be very strong, there is steep uphill and you need the acceleration.” For Vettel the major concern still lies with his engine and he admitted that he hopes the forecast heavy rain arrives on Friday. “The last couple of races were good for on Friday often it was wet, with less running for everyone so we saved mileage without paying too much of a price,” he said. “Interlagos has always been a circuit that is improving quite a lot. On top of that we don’t know if it is wet or dry, we will see how much, and how many cars are running tomorrow.” Source: Redbull.com

10.14: Sebastian not playing mind games
he's focused on winning with his updated RB5...
Sebastian Vettel on Wednesday said he is not prepared to escalate his battle for the 2009 world championship into a psychological war. He enters this weekend's penultimate round in Brazil with only a slim chance of overhauling championship leader Jenson Button for the drivers' title at Abu Dhabi in less than three weeks. Red Bull Racing boss Christian Horner has already compared Brawn's Button with a football player about to blow a decisive penalty. Horner's latest appearance in the media is to observe that Button "can lose everything and he will not be able to get that out of his mind." Vettel however vowed to concentrate only on his driving. "I try not to be distracted by things like that," he insisted. "What the others do is not in my hands.” It is clear that immense pressure is mounting on Button, who has headed to Sao Paulo after a holiday with his girlfriend in Hawaii. Vettel will step into the Interlagos paddock as F1's dominant last-start winner, and with some new parts for his RB5 - while Brawn raced its last car update for the season at Suzuka two weeks ago. “I have nothing to lose and because of that I can really attack,” he said. “Jenson has weakened a little bit so maybe this is our chance." Moreover, Horner revealed that Vettel's Red Bull will be further updated for the Abu Dhabi finale, with the scale of the title push highlighted at Suzuka, when Mark Webber spent part of his race afternoon testing an Interlagos-spec front wing. "We have kept our heads down and kept pushing, and we will have some new components in the next two events," Horner said. Source: F1-Live

10.12: "It is not over until it is over", says Schumi
of the title fight...
Michael Schumacher has implored his countryman, Sebastian Vettel, to give it his in all the remaining races this season, with a world title not out of reach. "He (Vettel) still has the chance to win the title. This alone is already a big success. I am sure he will make everything possible to show a good performance in the next two races," Schumacher commented on his website. "It is not over until it is over; you have to fight until the end. At Ferrari, we live that experience very successfully since many years, and I am convinced it will be like this again this time. Sebastian as well will probably share this view," said Schumacher. "This F1 season turned out to be extremely attractive again, and as probably all motorsport fans I am looking forward to seeing what will be happening in the last two races," the seven-time World Champion added. 10.08: Webber to support Vettel's title push
he confirms...
Mark Webber will now support his Red Bull teammate Sebastian Vettel's charge for the 2009 drivers' title, their boss Christian Horner has revealed. While Vettel has an outside shot at overhauling Brawn's Jenson Button in the final two races of the season, Australian Webber is no longer in mathematical contention. "Mark is a team player and understands that he must now support Sebastian," Horner told Germany's Sport Bild magazine. Webber dryly confirmed his new role: "If the team asks me to, I will drive for Sebastian." It is bad news for Button, whose own teammate Rubens Barrichello is desperate to hunt down the Briton's points lead, beginning with his home race at Interlagos next weekend Source: F1Live

10.06: Prost hails Vettel's title push
putting seb as favorite for interlagos win...
Alain Prost has hailed Sebastian Vettel's ability to rally the full support of the team Red Bull Racing as he continues to push for the 2009 title. "It was already the case last year at Toro Rosso," Prost said on Europe 1 radio. "It is what made the difference (for Vettel) with Sebastien Bourdais, not only the speed on the track. " In the German media, much was made of Vettel's unshaved stubble as he won in Japan, and it is rumoured that the German has promised his mechanics to keep growing the beard until his battle for the title is over. "Now, this team is really behind him," the French four time world champion, added. "A while ago everyone was dejected and saying that the championship was lost, except Vettel who said it was not over and they had to keep fighting. "In Sao Paulo I see him being very difficult to beat," he added. Source: F1Live

10.05: Seb snaps a Beatles Album on an auction
as a proud beatles fan...
Ann Bradshaw, (60) of Wansford near Peterborough sold her signed copy of the With The Beatles album for £2,700 at an auction and it was snapped up by Formula 1 racing driver Sebastian Vettel. Mrs Bradshaw originally won the album, signed by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and George Harrison, in a competition run by The Evening Telegraph in 1963. In need of funds to help pay for her new bathroom suite, Mrs Bradshaw decided to part company with the album at an auction in Stamford on Saturday. In a bizarre twist it was Mrs Bradshaw who actually bid for the album on behalf of the race ace. Mrs Bradshaw works for F1 team, BMW Sauber and knew the German driver from his time with the team. Vettel is a huge Beatles fan and when he heard Ann was selling her signed album he contacted her and asked her to bid on his behalf. Mrs Bradshaw said: "I know Sebastian from his time at BMW Sauber, and he is a big Beatles fan. He heard from some of my colleagues that I was selling the album, and while we were at the Singapore Grand Prix, he said he would love to buy it, and asked me to bid on his behalf. I got another text and email from him on Friday telling me to "please buy the album". "There was a lot of interest in it, and plenty of bids, but in the end it came down to me and one other man. He stopped at £2,600 so I was able to win the auction for Sebastian. I think he will be really pleased to have it – especially as he won the race on Sunday as well. I will give him the album at the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi." Mrs Bradshaw, who has worked with drivers including Ayrton Senna and Damon Hill, said she hoped Sebastian would be able to visit her new bathroom. "I will still use the money for the bathroom suite – I bought the house a couple of years ago and am still renovating it. Hopefully when it is all completed Sebastian can come and officially open the bathroom – by cutting toilet paper instead of ribbon, of course!" Source: Peterborough Today
