12.16: "Thank you very much!"
Sebastian after knowing he was driver of year...
Sebastian Vettel has thanked Crash.net readers for having voted him their top Formula 1 driver of 2008 – and has promised to work hard to impress just as much again in 2009. “I don't consider it as a step back,” he insisted, speaking exclusively to Crash.net Radio during Wembley's annual Race of Champions at the weekend. “I believe Red Bull has more potential, especially for the future. I think it's definitely the team to go for, and I don't regret my decision. It will take some time,” he acknowledged of his acclimatisation to his new surroundings, “but we have some more testing this week and then we'll see. We should have enough time to sort out everything. Obviously for next year the testing regulations are different, but as soon as I'm in the car we try to work. If Mark is not ready early enough then I'll have to take over, but that's normal I think.” “Close to that, obviously,” he suggested of how the cars will look in Melbourne in March. “You already know how the cars will look, but in the end what I care about is how the cars will feel. So far I haven't had any practice yet, so we'll have to wait for our new car.” Non-committal about his chances of adding to his victory tally with RBR next year, Vettel added finally that he was thrilled to have been chosen by Crash.net readers as the best driver of the 2008 F1 campaign – and has vowed to ‘work hard' to do even better in 2009. “Thank you very much,” he reflected. “I didn't know that. Yeah, it's nice to hear. In the end, all kinds of awards are a confirmation that what you've done has been good, and we'll work hard [in 2009] so our chances become even better.” Source: Crash

12.16: "I'm feeling good about next year"
says Sebastian about the upcoming season...
Despite admitting he would like to emulate Schumacher and take the title driving for Ferrari, Vettel said he was looking forward to making his race debut for the Milton Keynes-based outfit. "I'm feeling good about next year," he said. "There's still a lot of work ahead of us, but we are willing to work long and hard to get things right." Vettel also gave guarded backing to the decision, announced by the FIA on Friday, to introduce a number of measures over the next several seasons with the intention of cutting costs. "As a driver I can appreciate why all the changes were made, to safeguard the future of the sport," Vettel continued. "We will have to see what difference they make. At the moment it's too early to judge because there are a lot of new things already executed, and a lot of new things still in discussion. It's difficult to say what to expect because many of the changes seem too far away right now. But whatever comes in we will have to deal with it. As a driver all you do is sit in the box and try to do your best." Vettel added that Honda's decision to withdraw from F1, a situation that arguably forced such swift action by the FIA and the Formula One Teams' Association (FOTA), came as "a shock for everybody". "It was the worst scenario for the drivers and the whole team. A lot of guys look set to lose their jobs," he added. "But hopefully they can find a buyer and keep on racing because I think for next year, their car is near-enough ready or done." Source: Sky Sports

12.15: "I enjoy watching him," says Schumi
after another well succeeded roc...
Red Bull Racing star Sebastian Vettel - F1's youngest-ever grand prix-winner - has 'the genes to one day become world champion' in the sport, claims legendary record-breaker Michael Schumacher. Sebastian Vettel has 'the genes to one day become world champion' in Formula 1 - that is the verdict on the German youngster by none other than compatriot and record-breaking seven-time title-winner Michael Schumacher. Vettel became the sport's youngest-ever winner when he famously triumphed for Scuderia Toro Rosso in the Italian Grand Prix at Monza aged 21 years and 74 days back in September. Though the now Red Bull Racing star has dismissed any comparisons with Schumacher, the legendary 91-time grand prix winner has agreed that his countryman - with whom he teamed up to successfully defend Germany's Nations' Cup glory in Wembley's Race of Champions at the weekend - could go on to follow in his wheeltracks one day in lifting the sport's ultimate laurels. "I enjoy watching him," admitted the 39-year-old in an interview with Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport. "He has his own personality, the team needs to help him to develop and the results will come. He has the genes to one day become world champion; he demonstrated that this year." Source: Eurosport

[TESTS] Seb to test for RBR this week
on tuesday and wednesday...
Newly signed Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel hasn’t really had much of a break after the end of his 2008 season with sister team Toro Rosso, and this week he’ll be testing for the second time post-season in Jerez. Sebastian was recently a guest of honour at a German TV special as well as making time to visit the factory and meet his new team. Vettel went to the Red Bull Racing headquarters at Milton Keynes to shake hands with his pit crew, talk to chief engineer Paul Monaghan as well as spending time with team principal Christian Horner and chief technical officer Adrian Newey, the man who designed the car in which Vettel won his first grand prix in Monza earlier this year. Seb will be testing in Jerez this week, Tuesday and Wednesday, alongside Sebastien Buemi, who along with Red Bull Junior Team driver Brendan Hartley, will be testing today. Source: AutoMoto365
