10.16: Seb and Wurz went to the top of mount Fuji
says press. pics to be posted asap...
While the Formula One paddock was sleeping off an eventful Japanese Grand Prix in Fuji on Sunday, Alex Wurz climbed into his Honda Civic car and drove past Lake Yamanaka to the foot of Mount Fuji. His plan was to reach the summit of the 4,000-metre volcano before sunrise.

Joining the Honda Racing F1 Team’s third driver for the climb was Sebastian Vettel of Toro Rosso, who’d just finished sixth in the Japanese Grand Prix. Both men were tired and could have done without 48 sleepless hours, but this was a challenge that neither could resist.

They attached head torches and began their ascent at 03:00. It was a clear night – cold and cloudless – and they marched relentlessly upwards without stopping. Dawn came and went, and temperatures plummeted: it wasn’t a trip for the faint-hearted.

But they made it; as alarm clocks belonging to other members of the F1 fraternity went off on Monday morning, Alex and Sebastian were on their second slice of toast, their dream achieved.

Sebastian said, "It was some wild adventure. When we started, it was still dark and we needed lights. We went until the sunrise. It was somewhat special to watch it in such situation in the so-called 'Land of the rising sun'."

[RACE] "I hope to score points in remaining races"
said Sebastian after race...
"At the first corner, I was forced to run wide as there was an incident on the inside, losing a lot of places. After that it was difficult to fight my way back. Nevertheless, getting both cars in the points is a strong showing from us, even if we could have been looking for a few more points today. Two more races to go: I hope to add to our total in both of them.”

[QLF] "Tyres will be key in the race"
said Vettel after qualifing...
Sebastian Vettel says the performance of the tyres will be key in tomorrow's Japanese Grand Prix at Fuji.

The Toro Rosso driver, winner of the Italian Grand Prix last month, qualified in ninth place.

Vettel said the track condition are likely to make life hard for the tyres, and he reckons keeping them in good shape will be crucial to achieve a good result.

"At the start of qualifying the track was still quite green because of the rain, but we made it to Q3 again which is good," said Vettel.

"Then in the final part, I was struggling a bit with the heavier car, as it did not feel as good as before and I made a couple of small mistakes.

"But the gap to the next fastest was a bit too big. It will be a tough race on the cars and especially the tyres, so I think the key to success will be to keep the tyres in good shape. I hope our strategy turns out to be a good one."
