09.18: Seb's school to be named after him
temporarily...
Sebastian Vettel's high-school has changed its name following his debut grand prix win at Monza last Sunday.

Attended only a couple of years ago by the now 21-year-old German, the Starkenburg-Gymnasium, located in Vettel's native Heppenheim, announced this week it will temporarily be officially called 'Sebastian-Vettel-Gymnasium'.

"We are extremely proud of him, even if perhaps we contributed not so much to his success," deputy head master Karl-Heinz Diedrich told the German news agency SID.

09.18: Stuck says BMW should've kept Seb
in an interview...
Hans-Joachim Stuck, a former German racing driver with long links to BMW, has questioned the Hinwil based team's decision last year to let Sebastian Vettel switch to Toro Rosso.
"The BMW management have missed what was the right time to have the right driver," he told Spox.
"That he drives now for a different team, makes no sense to me," Stuck, who raced in F1 in the 70s, continued. "BMW surely had their reasons, but I would have probably done things differently," he added.

[TESTS / Day 02] Two more days of tests
red bull test notes...
Fresh from his historic victory in the Italian Grand Prix last Sunday with Red Bull's sister team Toro Rosso, today Sebastian Vettel got behind the wheel of the same Red Bull Technology chassis, albeit with a different livery and engine.

Set-up work was the main item on the agenda, as the team gets to know its new driver and vice versa, in preparation for next season. Other work included data acquisition from a few new components; some time was lost in the afternoon with a gearbox problem. The young German completed 60 laps in all, signing the second-fastest time of the day.

Vettel continues testing with the Red Bull team tomorrow, before switching back to Scuderia Toro Rosso for the final day.

09.17: Monza trophee against FIA rules
for showing a logo instead of a art piece...
The trophies presented to Monza winner Sebastian Vettel and his podium cohorts seem to have contravened the 2008 Formula One sporting regulations.

Many pundits were surprised after the Italian Grand Prix, when instead of being handed traditional trophies, Vettel and his peers held aloft silvered prizes in the shape of the logo of the race's title sponsor, Banco Santander.

Upon inspection of the 2008 sporting regulations, the FIA requires Grand Prix promoters to present trophies "in the form of traditional cups.

01.17: Seb to double retainer in new 2-yrs deal
says german press...
Monza winner Sebastian Vettel is set to more than double his retainer by switching from Toro Rosso to parent team Red Bull in 2009.

Germany's Bild newspaper reports that the 21-year-old German, who became the youngest race winner of all time last weekend, will make 1.5 million euros next year.

Swiss based Motorsport Aktuell said recently that Vettel is currently the third lowest earner among the 20 race drivers, with his 600,000 euros surpassed even by Kazuki Nakajima.

But even though Michael Schumacher's manager Willi Weber believes he could help Vettel pocket 100 million euros from his career, the young racer insists he has no plans to hire a manager.

Vettel is a rare breed in F1, choosing to handle his own affairs.

"He does everything himself," his father Norbert confirmed.

Vettel, who used a single lawyer to help him with his new two-year Red Bull contract, said: "I am not going to change anything. Not at all. I don't see why I should start doing things differently now."

[RUMOUR] "Best drivers end up with best teams"
says Haug on a possible McLaren future...
A few dozen hours after Sebastian Vettel became F1's youngest ever winner, both of the German manufacturers involved in the sport have expressed interest in the 21-year-old.

"A year ago it wasn't possible to put him in our car, he was very inexperienced and you cannot gamble," said BMW-Sauber team boss Mario Theissen, who released Vettel to debut with Toro Rosso last year. It was much more important to give him the chance to develop in a team like this and he will do that for a few years and then we will see," Theissen added.

Also with a close eye on Germany's new F1 star is Norbert Haug, the boss of Mercedes-Benz's collaboration with McLaren, who reportedly made enquiries about Vettel's status last year when they were on the market to replace Fernando Alonso.

"Red Bull invested in Sebastian and now they are reaping the benefit," the German is quoted as saying by RTL. "What happens eventually, you cannot tell now," Haug continued. "Anyway, we would never have talks like that through the media. But it is the case that the best drivers always end up with the best teams."

There is no doubt that 2008 in general, and Monza specifically, have marked the beginning of a lucrative era for Vettel. Willi Weber, who brought the Schumacher brothers into F1, told Bild newspaper the 21-year-old youngster could be set to make 100 million euros in the next decade.

The Swiss publication Motorsport Aktuell reports that, of the 20 race drivers, Vettel is currently the third-lowest earner, with a retainer of 600,000 euros -- behind Kazuki Nakajima (650,000).
