[TESTS / Day 02] Sebastian tests slicks
says str test notes...
Today marked Scuderia Toro Rosso’s first real test of the 2009 Bridgestone slick tyres, with Seb running two types of slick throughout, on his way to setting the fastest time of the day for the second consecutive day. The STR 3 was run with a smaller wing to replicate the predicted levels of downforce, as demanded by next year’s regulations.

Testing was again trouble-free, with Vettel simulating a long run test, as well as working on the balance of the car. “I spent the whole time on the 2009 spec slick tyres and the biggest difference you notice is in the slow corners, where you feel more mechanical grip,” he commented.

“However, the low downforce configuration in line with next year’s rules means you have a lack of aero which you feel on the high speed sections, but it is balanced out by more grip from the tyres. We tried two types of tyre and it was an interesting experiment, from which we got loads of data to study.”

Tomorrow, Sebastien Bourdais takes over for the final two days.

07.23: "I have grown up"
"and learned to go step by step"
Sebastian Vettel insists his new contract with Red Bull Racing will not distract him from his current role at the Toro Rosso team.

"Obviously it's good to know early in the season what are you doing next year," Vettel told autosport.com during testing at Jerez. "But all my focus is on this year. The way I approach the weekend, or a single lap, or the race, doesn't change just I know what I'm doing next year. I have grown up and learned enough to go step by step and for sure this step is not yet finished. And you can see that our results are getting better, so there's a very good atmosphere, everybody is extremely happy."

Vettel has scored six points so far this season as his team continue to make progress since the introduction of their new car in Monaco.

The German is optimistic he can continue to show good pace as long as Toro Rosso keep up their development rate.
"I think if we find a good balance, and if I feel comfortable, then we have a very competitive car at this stage of the season," Vettel added. "Last race we were always in the top ten, so it's very good. We have to keep this momentum and work hard and develop hard to stay there."

Despite his optimism, Vettel believes Toro Rosso could have a difficult time in next week's Hungarian Grand Prix.
"Hungary is difficult. I think we will be, not struggling, but we will have a more difficult time that we had in the last few races," he said. "But already in Hockenheim we expected it to be more difficult than Silverstone, and we managed to do quite well. So we will see. Our target is to go into Q2 and from there we'll see. "

[RACE] 'We deserved to finish where we did'
says sebastian about his eighth position...
Sebastian Vettel took another point in a composed, strong drive in front of his home crowd at Hockenheim.
"It was a tough race with a lot of fights but it was big fun," said Vettel. "The first lap was hard and close. I tried to pass Kimi, but it didn't work out. I took some time to find a rhythm but I had a wonderful car and could run a great pace. I was disappointed when I saw the Safety Car as I was comfortably holding a points position, but we did the best we could in the situation. I fought to the end and although I was quicker than Jarno I could not pass and then he made a mistake, which brought me back to eighth place. Congratulations to everyone in the team. Eighth with no retirements, means we deserved to finish where we did and I am proud of that."

[QLF] Sebastian didn't block Piquet
as the brazilian driver thought...
Nelson Piquet Jr. said: “After a very promising practice session this morning, I am of course disappointed not to have passed through the first stage of qualifying. During my lap, Vettel was in front of me, which unsettled me a little, although the FIA felt that he did not impede me.”

The question remains: how can a driver who clocked the fifth time in that lap, hold up a driver who only set the 17th fastest time in the same lap? Maybe it's time to up your game Mr. Piquet?

Team mate Fernando Alonso made it into Q3 and will start tomorrow's race from 5th position.
