09.18: Seb items to be auctioned in Portugal
to help gain funds for a school in Uganda...
The GP2 Series is drawing to a close and will celebrate with its new Champion this weekend in Portugal, where the last round of the 2009 season will take place at the Autodromo Internacionale do Algarve. On Sunday evening, the traditional Prize Giving Ceremony will not only honour all the protagonists of the fifth season of the Series, but will also feature our now customary charity auction.

This year, the GP2 Series has chosen to support and help develop St Mary’s Primary School in Seeta Nazigo, Uganda. Although attendance at a primary school is mandatory in this country, a large number of children still cannot afford to pay for the school fee. Learning English and getting an education offer a significant advantage in Ugandan society, and going to school helps to secure a child’s future.

Built a few years ago, the school building is no longer big enough to welcome all the potential pupils, aged from five to sixteen years old. Thanks to GP2 Series’ donations, a new classroom block - including teachers’ housing and a kitchen shed – will be erected. Further funds will also be used to purchase books and furniture, along with repairing and maintaining the existing block.

The auction will be held on Sunday evening alongside the prize giving ceremony, with many items donated by Formula One drivers such as double World Champion Fernando Alonso, the first ever GP2 champion Nico Rosberg (thanks to Bridgestone’s contribution), Red Bull Racing drivers Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel, and ING Renault F1 Team’s Romain Grosjean.

[RACE] "Overall, we didn't have the speed."
says Seb after a disappointing race at Monza...
Sebastian Vettel - 8th: “I think we had a good start and a good first lap, but then I was struggling to stay with the cars in front. The biggest issue today was the first five to ten laps when I was struggling with low grip, I was sliding a lot and lost a lot of time. Overall, we didn’t have the speed and perhaps this wasn’t the best track for our car. For the next race we will put more downforce in again and maybe we’ll be better, we will see. The championship isn’t over - our target is to do our best, we’re here to win races and the championship, so we have to focus on that, all the rest is out of our hands.”

[FPs] "We still have to improve"
says sebastian after first sessions...
Sebastian Vettel does not think Red Bull Racing's low-key Friday performance at Monza should be a cause for concern, and believes that some of the cars ahead will turn out to have been running low fuel loads.

"It's quite a surprise today to look at the lap times and see who is on top and who's in the midfield," said Vettel.

"Nothing is wrong for us and everything went to plan - we knew we faced a difficult Friday with limited mileage due to the small number of engines I have left until the end of the season. We used the laps we had available today and it seemed to go okay.

"We still have to improve, so we'll now look to see who was fast and who was playing with fuel loads. At this stage it seems impossible to predict who will be on top."
