[PREVIEW] "Our expectations are higher"
says sebastian about upcoming monza race...
Sebastian Vettel: “Without a doubt, Monza 2008 is one of my best memories, as it was where I scored my first F1 win, after taking my very first F1 pole. It was a perfect weekend and one I will remember always, whatever else I achieve during my career. To take this win with Scuderia Toro Rosso, an Italian team, in its home race, with Gerhard Berger standing next to me on the podium, seeing all the team members down beneath us, cheering and crying with joy was an unbelievably emotional experience. "Monza is in any case a special appointment on the calendar as you can really feel the history of the place, especially as, just a short walk from the paddock, you can see impressive banked corners of the old oval track. The modern circuit is all about having a car that rides the kerbs well at the many chicanes. Even though they were put in to reduce the speed of the cars, this is still the fastest circuit on the calendar and the one where we run the lowest downforce. While this gives you top speed, it also makes the car more unstable through the turns, under braking and accelerating out of the corners, so it is a very interesting high speed challenge. "Things have changed a lot in the space of 12 months. Although at this point last year, the Toro Rosso car was improving and even if we saw we were competitive even in Friday practice, my pole and win were something of a surprise to everyone. This year, Red Bull Racing and me and Mark are fighting for the Championship titles, so we are considered front-runners. It doesn’t put me under any more pressure, but it does mean that our expectations are higher.”

09.06: "My goal is to become World Champion."
and Sebastian still believes in his chances...
Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel, currently third in the championship standings with a 19-point deficit, believes he can close the gap over this season's five remaining races and grab the drivers' title from Jenson Button's hands. "My chances of taking the title are intact," the 22-year-old said in an interview with Germany's Die Welt, as reported by AFP. "My goal is to become World Champion." Vettel has stood on the podium six times so far this season, including victories in China and Great Britain. Retirements in Hungary and Spain put a dent in his campaign recently, but his return to the podium in Belgium has kept him in contention for the crown. "I want to win at Monza," he declared, referring to next weekend's ultra-fast Italian Grand Prix. "Our car has always been competitive - sometimes more, sometimes less - but we have always been strong." To reach his title ambitions Vettel must battle with the determined efforts of fellow Red Bull driver Mark Webber, in addition to Brawn's Rubens Barrichello, as they strive to reach the Brazilian's championship-leading teammate Jenson Button. Over the course of the last few races, Button has scored less points than his rivals; a situation worsened by his accident-provoked retirement and consequent zero points take in Belgium. At the wheel of the Red Bull RB5, Vettel is convinced he has the right equipment to take advantage of the situation: "We are always at the same level as the best cars, if we are not slightly faster." [AWARD] "It is very special for me!"
says Vettel of the new award...
During the preparations for the Belgian Grand Prix, Sebastian Vettel received the SPORT BILD-Award for Sportsman of 2009. Vettel was surprised: "It is something very special for me, to win an award from the readers of SPORT BILD, as a motorsports driver, instead of a soccer player. I would've never expected to. The award will surely go to my awards room. There's a lot of space there, I have almost no trophies yet." There's really a trophy missing: the one for the F1 World Championship. Vettel tells readers and fans: "I'm a fighter and I'll only give up when mathematically I don't have any chance to win the championship anymore." Source: SportBILD Thanks: Julia

[RACE] "We've proven that we are back."
says Seb after getting onto the podium in Spa...
Sebastian Vettel - 3rd: “If you look at the Championship board, today was a good result. Obviously it was not easy to start from the middle of the pack, but the actual start was good. I was maybe too conservative in the middle of the first lap when I saw Nick go off the track - very often cars tend to come back on to the circuit spinning; I lost a position to Nico Rosberg and had to catch him back up after the restart. I lost too much ground to the leading cars in the first stint, but in the second and third stints the car was fantastic, I didn’t make any mistakes and was pushing like it was qualifying on every lap. It was a pleasure to drive the car and we were quicker than the guys in front. We took points out of the Brawn team today, so that’s good for the team and it’s good to score more points than Jenson and Rubens for the drivers’ championship. A big thank you to the team and compliments to Renault - after everything we’ve gone through in the last couple of races, it’s good to finish a race again. We’ve proven that we are back.”

[RACE] Vettel says title race is wide open
after 'overtaking' his teammate in wdc hunting...
Sebastian Vettel believes the world championship is still wide open after his third place finish at the Belgian Grand Prix. The result moved Vettel back into third place in the standings, 19 points behind Jenson Button, who failed to finish the race today. "I think we cut more points than all the rest except those two, but if you look at the championship board it's a very good result," said Vettel. "I think it is still open. This championship is a bit crazy, to be honest. We saw this weekend Force India were quick here and will be quick at Monza, it is up and down, so it's important to be consistent. Today we took six points out of Jenson, the championship leader. I don't know what happened to him. It would have been nice to finish first today but after the result yesterday it is the best we could do." "We had a strong pace and were quicker than guys in front," he said. "We lost the ground in the beginning but nevertheless a very good result. We took points out of the Brawns and for me I scored more points than Jenson and Rubens. It's good to finish again and good to see it is strong enough to finish races." Source: Autosport

[QLF] "It will be tough tomorrow"
predicting a tough sunday for red bull team...
Sebastian Vettel: "It was quite an interesting session - and not the best for us obviously; eighth and ninth will be tough tomorrow on the grid. Unfortunately I made a mistake on my last flying lap in Q3. I lost the rear going into Turn 14, which leads on to the back straight and lost all the speed, so there was no point in completing the lap. The results were quite a surprise today; I don't think anyone expected Fisi (Fisichella) to be on pole."
